Space Tipi (a Chamber for Communal Meditations on Vastness)
10’ x 8’ x 8’
silver Mylar, black lights, fabric, Styrofoam regrind, pigmented plastic, gravel, pinwheels, oyster netting, paint
2009
A silver Mylar curtain encompasses a loose circle of beanbags, aquarium gravel, and Styrofoam-plastic spills. Between three and five participants are invited in to enjoy first a party-like atmosphere and next a mutual communion in the womb-like space of the black-lit tent. Participants invariably begin with a pillow fight and proceed to running fingers through gravel or leaning back to contemplate the fluttering walls or the bright pink, orange, and yellow pinwheel-entangled net hanging in the middle.
